John Monkman presents ‘Pulse’ - A collaboration with Collectif Scale

I’m excited to announce ‘Pulse’ - A collaboration with Collectif Scale A couple of weeks ago, in a warehouse just outside of Paris, I performed a Live set of exclusively new productions with the extraordinary Collectif Scale. In a world dominated by large screens, their unique kinetic light pieces offer a more tangible, abstract experience that I always thought would align powerfully with my music. Once the collaboration was confirmed, it provided me with a clear goal and focus for how the music could be experienced.

In May, I dedicated four intense weeks to deep writing sessions, aiming to map out multiple tracks each day that would form the foundations for the set. The emphasis was on moving fast, capturing ideas, and moving forward. As a result, I now have a collection of songs I’m really excited about. The songs are not necessarily finished; arrangements will change, and sounds will evolve as they get released. However, this project was a chance to explore the music in its raw, unpolished state. Releasing music is often a drawn-out process, with the final product coming out months after its inception. By then, my tastes and approach may have shifted.

This collaboration served as an inspiration and goal, bringing you closer to the source and moment of creation. Special thanks to Sam Irving & Christian Britten for capturing the experience & the Collectif Scale for their incredible work on the night.
